around the late 80s, a new wave of hip hop became apparent 'New school'. This style was soulful, Jazzy and interesting. Upholding the orginal hip hop fashion incorporating even more samples, new DJ's, Graffiti and break dancing. a certain dress code stared to devolp related to the genre, Vintage sportswear was very popular, commercializing brands such as Adidas, Kangol and Pro-Keds. These ski/windbreak jackets were very colourful and distinctive. Also high name brands such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton designed specialized tracksuits, fur coats and accessories to re create a 'modern' Funk/Pimp look.

During the 90s Hip Hop made its way underground.. Artist started to become less commercial and singing to more independent labels to create a different sound. during the early 90s the music submerged, involving many areas of the genre and exaggerating on sampling. acclaimed artist began to take interests in other genres as well such as reggae and Neo soul, which developed into other artist such as Erykah Badu and D'angelo, The Pharcyde and The fugees.
In our modern day hip hop is still among us, sadly art of authentic music has passed, however underground artist still maintain a certain amount of respect for their interesting collaborative origins and great play on words, Most of these artist are now associated with skateboarding and other extreme sports.
